Sicamous, B.C. - Each year the Eagles main camp begins to gather a lot of attention and this year is no different. After a very successful spring camp in Smithers last month, General Manager Wayne March expects to see a good crop of kids at their main camp in August. "With commitments from several players already, our fans will be entertained by a whole new look for the 2008/09 season featuring more speed, scoring and toughness" says March.

In fact, the camp has caught the attention of hockey players as far away as Alaska, New Brunswick, New York and California and as of this week, all goaltender positions have been filled and spots for forwards and defensemen are filling up. "We still have about 40+ spots open for main camp, but players and parents shouldn't leave it too long to register!" states the Eagles GM.

Overall, the Eagles enjoyed a successful season in 2007/08, finishing the regular season in second place behind the Revelstoke Grizzlies. Coming off a 3-1 exhibition record, the Eagles got off to a terrible start to the regular season with just 2 wins in their first 12 games. It wasn't until mid December that the Eagles began to turn their season around after making a number of player moves including the addition of Daniel Salamandyk in goal.

Head Coach Blair Robinson did a great job as he was often forced to juggle his lines due to players being injured, released or traded. The Eagles also struggled in getting shots on goal. At times, they still managed to beat the opponents, despite being outshot by a 2-to-1 ratio. In net, Riley Wall and Daniel Salamandyk often saved games by themselves.

With the addition of speedy sixteen year old forward, Tyler Krause and gritty veterans Dustin Sobchak, Shane Lightfoot and Naythan Smith, the Sicamous Eagles quickly became one of the KIJHL's hottest teams through December and January that included impressive 3-0 and 5-4 wins over league leading Revelstoke Grizzlies.

Securing a first round playoff match-up with the Columbia Valley Rockies, the Eagles would make short work of the bigfoot crew in just 4 games to advance to a divisional final series with the Revelstoke Grizzlies. Given no chance of winning a single game and missing some key players including captain Dustin Sobchak, the Sicamous Eagles pushed the Grizzlies to 7 games that included 6 overtime periods. Led by forwards Tyler Krause, Tyson Hall, Colton Sobchak, defenseman Josh Collins, goalies Riley Wall and Daniel Salamandyk, the Eagles fell one period short of advancing to a conference final match-up with the Kamloops Storm.

Anticipating the return of several key players next year and commitments from players at spring camp in Smithers, the Sicamous Eagles will look to be a very strong contender for the 2008/09 hockey campaign.
