This week the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) will announce its Overall Award winners for on-ice excellence: Most Valuable Player, Top Scorer, Top Defenceman, Top Goaltender, Rookie of the Year, Most Sportsmanlike Player, Coach of the Year and General Manager of the Year.
Today the KIJHL is pleased to announce that Chase Campbell of the Sicamous Eagles has been named the Rookie of the Year.
The Sherwood Park, Alta., native led the Eagles in points with 58 (33G, 25A) in 40 games, which ranked him second among KIJHL rookies. He played an average of 23:48 a game and was +0. His 33 goals led all rookies and his 25 assists placed him 10th.
“Chase had an incredible season that will be remembered in Sicamous forever,” said Eagle head coach-general manager Derek Sweet-Coulter. “He played with passion and had a major impact in all our games, which was driven by his love for scoring and willingness to develop his 200-foot game. Chase took pride in playing in all situations, which led to some big moments for himself and the team throughout the season.”
Campbell earned a lot of power-play time playing 148:52 in which he had 14 points. He also played 73:48 on the penalty-kill and had eight short-handed points, including a league-leading five short-handed goals. Campbell scored four game-winners and was strong in the faceoff circle, winning 51.22 per cent of draws.
He was named to the KIJHL Team of the Week once, and Rookie of the Week twice.
“We are extremely proud of Chase and that we were able to be part of his development,” said Sweet-Coulter.
