The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) has announced Chase Campbell of the Sicamous Eagles as its Rookie of the Week, for the period ending Oct.26.
The Sherwood Park, Alta., native netted a hat-trick and four points for the Eagles in a 9-7 loss to the Kelowna Chiefs on Oct. 24. The performance gave Campbell his confidence back.
“Hopefully we can keep scoring and pull out a few wins here soon,” he says. “Kelowna is a good competitor, however, I thought our team was producing good offensively and I was moving quick and my legs were feeling light.”
Campbell credited linemates Braeden Jack and Emmytt Yurkowski for his production.
“We all started clicking together recently and if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t have won this award,” says Campbell, who with Jack and Yurkowski combined to put up 10 points (four goals, six assists).
Campbell followed up that performance with a two-goal game on Wednesday against the Osoyoos Coyotes, netting the winner in a 7-5 decision.
