Eagles’ Gallagher signs with NCAA D3 Rogers Williams University

Sicamous Eagles forward Ashton Gallagher has committed to play collegiate hockey for the Rogers Williams University Hawks in National Collegiate Athletic Association Division 3 this fall.

In 20 regular season games, the Calgary native had seven goals and six assists. He added two points in three Kootenay International Junior Hockey League Teck Cup playoff games.

“I’m really excited to get going in Rhode Island in the fall,” said Gallagher, who had his playing rights traded to the Kelowna Chiefs on June 3. “It’ll be a great opportunity to continue my education while playing hockey. A new division 3 program is always exciting because you can create a winning culture for years to come.”

“Ashton is dynamic with great scoring ability and plays a complete 200-foot game and he’s a great teammate,” said Eagles assistant coach Benjamin Marshall.

In his lone KIJHL season, Gallagher improved his offensive skills, especially his finishing ability to be a dominant player. His improvements led to the coaching staff being able to rely on him at any point in a game. Gallagher, 20, came to the KIJHL after spending a season in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League with the OCN Blizzard.

“Sicamous helped me earn this opportunity by providing me many chances to become successful on- and off-the-ice,” said Gallagher. “My coaches gave me all the tools I needed in order to succeed and move onto the next level. My teammates were there supporting me which made my season successful and memorable.”
