Young Guns: Kael Svenson

Sicamous Eagles goalie Kael Svenson earned this week’s Young Guns selection by stopping 100 of 106 shots over three games.

Svenson helped the Eagles win three straight games last week as he posted a .943 save percentage with a 2.00 goals against average. He stopped 31 of 33 in a 6-2 win over the Osoyoos Coyotes on Nov. 20, then 29 of 31 in a 5-2 win over the Merritt Centennials Nov. 22, then had a 40-save performance against the Centennials on Nov. 23 in a 5-2 win.

“He made a lot of big saves, but also a lot of really timely saves,” said Eagles head coach-general manager Liam McOnie. “I think back to our game in Osoyoos. We were down 2-0 early, but he still made a few really big timely saves in the first period to keep it at 2-0. He continued giving us a chance in that game. It was the same with the games on Friday and Saturday. He kept a level head and made a lot of calm saves.”

In four games,  Svenson is 4-0 with a 1.98 GAA and a .942 SP.
