The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League has an exciting new wave of rookie talent entering the 2022-23 season, which begins on Sept. 23. Leading up to the start of the season, we will highlight those players from each team.
Next in the New Wave series are the Sicamous Eagles. The Eagles finished fourth in the Doug Birks division with 14 wins in 42 games. They qualified for the KIJHL Teck Cup playoffs, losing in four games to Revelstoke.
Here’s a look at their new wave of rookies with insight from Head Coach and GM Nick Deschenes.

Caleb Muri
Goalie, Beaumont Braves U18 AA Muri earned five wins in 12 games last season for the Braves with a .910 save percentage and a 3.58 goals against average. In his first exhibition start, Muri made 43 saves in a 3-2 OT win against Summerland. “Caleb is a good sized goaltender that is very steady and positionally sound. He has already shown he belongs at this level with his first two exhibition games.” |

Parker Fournier
Forward, Salmon Arm Midget AA In 13 games last season, Fournier produced at more than a point-per-game average with 14 goals and 21 points. “Parker is a very good skater and excelled last season at the Midget AA level. He is a local player and we believe he can develop and become a strong player, very quickly for us.” |

Colby Agyeman
Defenceman, Bow Valley Timberwolves The Cochrane, Alberta product had 15 points in 31 games last season. “Colby is a solid all-around defenceman that will be relied upon to play in all situations. He is a smooth skater and has strong offensive instincts.” |

Reid Tofteland
Defenceman, IHA Prep Last season the Calgary product had 11 points in 34 games. “Reid is a dynamic defenceman that can play both sides of the puck and will be relied on to play in all situations.” |

Jordan Crawford
Forward, Miles Mac Buckeyes (WHSHL) Last season the Winnipeg product had 16 points in 24 games. “Jordan is a power-forward that is effective on the forecheck and possesses good offensive instincts.” |

Daniel Kroon
Forward, Bow Valley Timberwolves AA The Calgary product led the Timberwolves in offence last season with 39 points in 33 games. Kroon had a strong playoff with five goals and 15 points in five games and played with Agyeman. “Daniel is a very creative and dynamic forward that can play in all situations. He is a recently converted defenceman, so he has a lot of tools in his toolbox to have success in the KIJHL.” |

Braden Bowler
Forward, Beaumont Braves U18 AA A teammate of Muri on the Braves, Bowler produced just over a point-per-game last season with 20 points in 19 games. “Braden is a very coachable player that has recently converted to defence. He is a hardnose player that has a solid overall skill set.” |

Cam Whitelaw
Forward, Calgary Flames Midget AA Whitelaw was part of a very offensive Flames forward group, as he had 14 goals and 18 points in 25 games. He added another six points in six playoff games. “Cam is a late bloomer and came on late last season to help his team to a championship. He is strong around the net and has a heavy shot and will grow into a strong KIJHL player.” |

Alex Dunnett
Forward, Salmon Arm Midget AA Dunnett produced at nearly a point-per-game clip for Salmon Arm last season with 14 points in 15 games. “Alex is a local player that can play both forward and defence. He has above average awareness and we anticipate he will continually improve this season.” |

Zack Brandson
Forward, CNHA Black U18 AA Brandson was second in points on his team with 33 in 24 games. “Zack is a big power forward that has a strong offensive touch. He will be relied on to provide offence and contribute from the onset.” |

Cortt Callison
Forward, Rink U17 Last season with Rink Hockey Academy, Callison had 11 points in 33 games. “Cortt has shown in camp that he is ready for the junior game. He has all the tools and will look to grow his game within our group.” |

Joseph Jankowksi
Forward, Salmon Arm Midget AA Jankowski produced at nearly a point-per-game for Salmon Arm with 15 in 16 games. He was an affiliate player with the Eagles last season playing 10 combined games in the regular season and playoffs, and scored twice. “He is a dynamic player that competes all over the ice. He has a lot of potential and we look forward to working with him to grow his game.” |
