Coach Nick Leads by Example, Trains Warriors

While most coaches are primarily on the recruiting trail at this time of year, our Head Coach / GM is also busy in the gym working with the BCHL West Kelowna Warriors U16 and U18 Spring High Performance Training Program. Approximately 80 players have walked through the doors of his gym this spring, West Kelowna Fitness, to get stronger and faster for the upcoming season.

Coach Nick has been involved in off ice training in the West Kelowna area for the past seven years. Several players he’s trained are currently playing in the KIJHL and BCHL.  If leading by example is a prerequisite, Coach Deschenes is one of the fittest 40-44 year old’s in the world of CrossFit, often travelling across North America to compete in various competitions, most recently the CrossFit Semifinal Atlas Games in Montreal.

We are fortunate that Coach Deschenes can bring this skill set and expertise to our organization here in Sicamous.

Rob Sutherland, the Eagles Director of Hockey Operations has been thrilled about Nick joining the team and says, “Nick brings exactly what we have wanted, a coach that is fully involved and has his finger on the pulse of the team, and his players. When Nick came on board the players extra curricular studies, training, accountability and work ethic instantly received a huge boost. From pre-game opponent analysis to in-game and post-game video review of our own performances. Nick provides guidance in good life habits and leads by example on the ice and in the gym. Because he is right there beside you, learning and training, striving to get better, it makes it easier for you to be motivated and stay focused to grow mentally and physically.”
