Eagles Sanctioned for COVID-19 Policy Violations

The Kootenay International Hockey League has announced that the Sicamous Eagles have been sanctioned for violations under the league’s COVID-19 Vaccination Policy.
The sanctions stem from the participation of an Eagles player in team activities, including KIJHL regular season games, at a time when they did not meet the KIJHL’s requirement of being fully vaccinated.

In addition to a fine levied against the Sicamous Eagles organization, general manager Ron Sleeman has been suspended for a period of 45 days and head coach Gerald Bouchard has been suspended for a total of 8 games. Sleeman will be eligible to resume his duties on January 23rd, while Bouchard may return behind the bench when the Eagles host the Chase Heat on January 14th.

The KIJHL will make no further comment on this matter.

Statement from team President Sheila Devost, “The KIJHL has policies and rules for teams to follow…when they are not adhered to, there are consequences. We broke the rules and now must respect we have to face the consequences.”

Assistant GM/Assistant Coach Rob Sutherland will take the duties of GM/Coach while suspensions are being served.
