Eagles Represented at ACHA National Championships

The Sicamous Eagles are extremely excited for two of our former players who will be competing in the ACHA National Championships starting today!

This morning our very own Sicamous born Colby Sherlock and his Marian University Sabres started up the Div 2 bracket of the ACHA National Championships against the Williston State College Teton’s. The game was back and forth for the most part with Williston opening the scoring in the first period. Marian would score twice in the second with a Teton’s goal in between them ending the second at a 2-2 tie. The Teton’s would take the lead 1:45 into the third and the Sabres would tie it up about half way through on a penalty shot goal, giving us a 3-3 tie to finish regulation and taking us into overtime where Williston State would go on to score the game winning goal 3:52 into OT to win the first game of the championships.

Eagles Assistant GM Rob Sutherland watched the game and says, “It was a good game to catch, i’m happy all the games are on HockeyTV. I was feeling the exciting pressure in the third period for sure. This was the first time I’ve seen Colby play this year and I thought he played well, definitely noticed when he was on the ice. Of course i’d like to see a little more, especially on that puck pressure and body from Sherlock and the teams passes could be crisper and more often. But they all played a good game and this OT loss should elevate the focus and energy of the team for the rest of the tourney.”

Sherlock is 23 years old and is a local Sicamous kid that played for the Eagles in 2018/19. In 48 games he scored 13 times adding 10 assists for 23 points and 42 PIM’s. In 2019/20 Colby played 26 games as a rookie with Marian U. Sabres, scoring 10 times and had 15 assists for 25 points and 42 PIM’s.
Game #2 for the Sabres goes down early tomorrow morning, Friday at 8:30 am (Pacific time) when they take on the University of Jamestown Jimmies.
Game #3 puck drop happens on Saturday at 2:30 pm (Pacific time) against the pools #1 seeded Iowa State University Cyclones.
Go Sabres Go!

Tomorrow we have former Eagles defenseman Jim (James Kase) Hunter and his #13 seeded Maryville University Saints hosting and opening the Div 1 bracket of the ACHA National Championships from the Maryville University Hockey Center at 8:15 am (Pacific time) when they take on the #4 seeded Liberty University Flames. All games are being broadcast on www.HockeyTV.com. This bracket is a one game elimination style tournament, meaning if you lose you’re out and if you win you move on to the next round. The Saints hockey program who is only in their third season of existence went 10-6-0 during the regular season and this is their first time qualifying for the national tournament.

Hunter is 20 years old and from St. Albert, AB and played a solid defensive and very physical game with the Sicamous Eagles. Over two KIJHL seasons (2017-19) with the Eagles he played in 63 games, scoring twice with five assists and a bountiful 297 minutes in penalties. Assistant GM Sutherland reminisces how, “Kase was such a huge physical force on the ice, he hit like a freight train, he’d catch opponents rushing up the ice with their heads down and then Hunter would be there and Boom, a head on collision for our opponent.” Sutherland adds, “A couple hand counts of those PIM’s come from dropping the mitts when necessary and basically all my best Eagles fight highlight videos include Hunter”. Hunter still plays a very physical game with the Saints but isn’t being penalized for being a big body anymore. In 2019/20 Jim played 28 games with the Saints, scoring 2 goals and 5 assists with 67 PIM’s.
Go Saints Go!
